There are three Rolex watches that were built for divers which are the Sea Dweller watch, Submariner watch, and the Deepsea watch. Rolex are no strangers to waterproof watches… they were the ones who created the first waterproof watch in the world in 1926. The Submariner watch is the oldest out of the three with it being released in 1953, the Sea Dweller came next in 1967 and the Dweller is the newest waterproof watch with it being released quite recently in 2008.

Rolex is a privately held company that is well known globally for their luxury watch making. Rolex was originally founded in London over 110 years ago in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis. Later on in the early 1900’s, Hans Wilsdorf moved the company to Geneva, Switzerland to avoid the increasing war taxes during World War 1.
Geneva, Switzerland is now where the Rolex headquarters remains but they now have over 2,800 employees. They are now a global brand after Wilsdorf generated awareness from American servicemen who were stationed in Europe during World War 2. Today, Rolex is now worth over $8 billion and manufacture’s over 700,000 Rolex watches a year.
Hans Wilsdorf was a German watchmaker who worked for a Swiss watch making company before moving to London in 105 and starting his own watch making business which was originally called Wilsdorf & Davis.
The Rolex Sea Dweller watch was first released in the 1960’s due to there being a high number of deep sea divers. The original Sea Dweller watch could keep perfect time up to 2,000 ft. underwater while the modern day Sea Dwellers can now keep perfect time up to 12,800 ft. underwater. Rolex were able to create this deep sea diving watch by increasing the thickness of the crystal and installing a helium escape valve. However some of the original Sea Dweller watches did not have this feature.
The modern day Rolex Sea Dweller watch was announced in 2008 as being the most water resistant mechanical watch currently in production. The watch in design is really quite simple but very powerful in terms of its technology and what it can achieve. It has a silver three links bracelet, a contrasting black face so as to easily read when deep in water, and contrasting white hour markers and hands to easily distinguish the time in any circumstance.
